According to ships records, David Looker, aged 29 years, his wife Mary, also aged 29 years, daughter Hamutal, aged 8 years, and Mardling, aged 5 years, arrived in Portland, Victoria, aboard the ship the Duke of Richmond on 4th March 1853.  According to the records, David, Mary and Hamutal could read and write, and Mardling could read.

They had migrated from Foxton, Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire, England, and settled at Narrawong near Portland.
