South Australia - The Clare Valley
Graphics on these pages designed by:
The Clare Valley, one of the wine growing areas of South Australia, another of my 'adventures' and my first visit with a friend made through the medium of cyberspace.  December 1999 again saw me take to the road to visit places that I had never been.  The historic little town of Burra close by the Clare Valley (did I get it right this time Steve?) the destination on this occasion.
Steve was a net friend of around 15 months standing, and his lovely partner Marion, were my hosts and spent a week showing me around the beautiful, picturesque little town.  Burra has a very interesting history, with many very old buildings including the Redruth Jail, where I was able to indulge another of my interests (skeleton rattling) when I located a distant rellie in the listing of inmates.  Another very interesting area was the miner's dugouts, homes/manmade caves, in the bank of the Burra Creek, where apparently around a third of the population were housed when Burra was at it's peak.  Definately a place to visit if you are into the historical and picturesque.
I was again able to indulge my interest in skeleton rattling on the way home when I visited the Horsham Cemetery (after being booked for speeding west of Horsham - a 3 pointer too) and found the grave of my great grandfather George Peters and his second wife Jane.

Steve in one of the dugouts. It is hard to believe that people actually lived in these conditions.
